PRODUCT INFORMATION / REVIEWS:

Donegan's World Broadcast Recordings illustrate and illuminate the pianist's neglected early career, which culminated in the mid-1940s. Although she continued to make music until her death in 1998 at the age of 76 and experienced a late period of recognition and acclaim, the first half of the 1940s was her most commercially successful period. This collection complies recordings she made in New York on October 11, 1944 and May 22, 1945 for World; solo performances recorded exclusively for radio broadcast, heard nationwide over public airwaves via World's subscriber network shortly after they were cut. Less formal than than typical dates made for the retail market, the material was drawn from repertoire the pianist had been honing in night clubs, cabarets, and on theater stages for over six years. Captured in exceptional fidelity for the time, this is an aural snapshot of a remarkable pianist at a career peak.
