To many, Ozzie Nelson's name will be known primarily as father of the famous teen-age rock idol of the early 60s, Ricky Nelson. Those a little older were probably avid fans of Ozzie and Harriet whose TV Adventures show was top-rated from 1952 to 1968. Slightly older fans may remember that the television show developed because the radio show remained a great comedy family program from its beginnings in 1942 until the tube arrived. Before that, starting in 1941, Harriet was radio mother to Red Skelton's "mean little kid," sang a bit with Ozzie Nelson's Orchestra on the show, and Ozzie frequently contributed to both the singing and the comedy-making. Then you may be as old as I and remember the beautiful band Ozzie led beginning around 1930 and continuing into the early 40s. If you are not of that decade, here is your opportunity to hear what was happening then. -Jay McGahee
